This house started life as a small three bedroom timber cottage, but in order to complete the site development at 45 Dunsford Street in Lancefield, it needed to be relocated to make way for new civil works. Part of the sustainable approach in this building is making use of an existing structure, but altering and refurbishing it to give it a continuing new life. It didn’t change its use as a home, it just became a much better home. The walls have been re-clad to allow for wall insulation, new double glazed windows throughout are placed to maximise north winter sun, and the kitchen/ dining addition creates a sheltered and private garden orientation to the house. Perhaps the most striking feature is the new butterfly roof which has transformed the form of the house.
