Benloch Studio

A mountain house in the Central Victorian highlands, Benloch Studio is a dwelling in the modernist open pavilion tradition, but adapted to a cooler climate. The main living space has extensive double glazing to connect with the garden beyond, and is designed to be a passive solar heat sink in winter, and breezy open pavilion in summer. Space flows effortlessly between inside and out, and the articulated plan form allows for many varied garden views while also creating sheltered microclimates for outdoor living no matter from which direction the weather comes. The external materials, local shiplap timber cladding and corrugated galvanized steel, are both reflective of traditional rural buildings and harmonious with the natural bushland setting.
